What a fantastic read for anyone looking to open their eyes to the very real problems that are still occurring in our society. I do recommend this for an older reader who is ready to maturely and respectfully tackle tough issues. All American Boys is told from two different perspectives, which was very powerful, especially in the final chapter of the novel. I thought the way in which the authors told the story opened conversations, allowing them to develop naturally from there. Something else I liked about it was that the novel showed many different perspectives on the event at hand and wasn't afraid to pose some tough questions.
Very good YA book. After viewing/suffering a police beating, white boy considers what it's like to be black and black boy comes to understand he doesn't have to be treated this way. For school book club, there is some language that would require parental consent to read.
A powerful reminder that racism, white supremacy, and police brutality are not new problems.

Should be required reading for everyone. Loved every page. Cried three times.
A friend of mine is teaching this to her 8th graders. Since I donated to her go fund me, I figured I'd read it. It's a good read for anyone who wants to understand this complicated issue more. It is written for a young audience, but some of the language is rough. If you can get past that, it is a great book to introduce tough topics to adolescents.
