I devoured this book! I think this is some of SJM’s best writing yet - she’s gotten away from some of her most overused and repetitive phrases. Great characters, romantic, steamy, huge plot reveals, and after the ending, I have to start reading the next book immediately.

Lost 0.5 stars because it seemed… long. Sure, most of the stuff seemed important, and a lot came together at the end. But it started to get a little tough to follow all the POVs and various side quests.

This book in the series starts off great and then the middle drags on. Lots of side characters from the previous book and newer characters took center stage. I found their stories more compelling than the main characters’ (Bryce and Hunt). The ending picks up the pace, just as in the previous book. Great twist at the end and uniting of SJM universe.

3 stars.

CC1 is in my all time favorite book ever top 10, maybe even in the top 5. CC2 isn’t even the best book I’ve read this month. And I’m so disappointed. Crushed really. And the ending blew. I didn’t get the plot twist until I came here and read the reviews explaining what had happened. SJM really? I have to go and read an entire other series for this one to make sense to me. That’s straight up bullshit. I mean it. For that alone I may not read CC3. Will I even understand it without having the knowledge of the others?

CC2 was 760 pages of plot filler. There was so much talking, so much explaining and yet nothing happened. CC2 was an entire 800 page book created for the sole purpose to set us up for CC3. And why? There was also a ton of telling instead of showing and it was just plain boring. And I hated the multiple POV switches in all the chapters. Pretty sure I have whiplash. I had to go back multiple times to figure out who I was reading about. Lastly where is the damn map! I struggled with SJM’s world building and descriptions in CC1 and it was no better in CC2. It’s so hard to emerse yourself into a world that you are struggling to imagine. I chalked it up to CC1 just being the first book of the series but was it was no better here and it should have been.

The best part of the entire book was Rhun and I loved the Day and Night plot. Although, I figured out that mystery fairly quickly. I want more of them.

I’ve waited so long for this book and it was just a mess that felt all thrown together. Like she had to get it all out on paper real quick so we could move on to the good parts in CC3. But who wants to read filler?

CC1 is one of the best books I’ve ever read. It broke me, it touched me, and it made me feel all the things. What a let down to get this after that.

Really loved the first book in the Cresent City series, but struggled with parts of book two being slow. Still loved the characters and plot though.
