I think there were too many characters of different species and too much worldbuilding all at once in this book. Keeping track of asteri and the archangels and hell princes and the angels (plus all their weird nicknames for eachother) and the wolves and the mermaids and the fae and the humans and the shifters??? SJM does not have the writing skills to support that kind of worldbuilding
And the rebels/spies/murder mystery business on top of it made for a plot line that quickly became difficult to follow… the entire last half of the book made very little sense to me and I did have to read a blog summary to sort it out.
The Bryce/Hunt romance was lukewarm at best. I liked Ruhn in this book though.
I feel like I will read CC3 solely for the purpose of more ACOTAR content. I feel more attached to the ACOTAR set of characters versus the CC set.

Marking this as a *spoiler* just to say 2 things:
1. I absolutely did not need a s*x scene every two chapters.
2. Danika has to be the worst best friend ever.
Aside from that, I really like this book! I think the same amount as the first one but for different reasons. The cliffhanger made me scream and I can't wait for the next one!
