2024: CHEF'S KISS

2022: One of the easiest 5 stars I've ever given!! This book was the Goodreads Choice winner for Sci-Fi for 2021 and it absolutely deserved it. I laughed out loud, I teared up, I whooped for joy (on the inside.) This book ran me through my emotional paces and it was an extremely enjoyable read. Have you ever read a sci-fi book that seems to lean on a lot of made-up, implausible scientific mechanics? This book is not like that. Andy Weir's dedication to real, tangible astrophysics and mathematical calculations make it so easy to immerse yourself in this story. The protagonist, Ryland, walks you through all the math right as he's doing it -- and his quirky, gregarious attitude makes him so lovable. The relationship he develops with the second protagonist is so heartwarming and genuine. Honestly, if you are a lover of sci-fi, if you're averse to sci-fi, if you've been wronged by sci-fi novels in the past, this book is a breath of fresh air and I highly recommend it.

Aw this was such a sweet read, I thought the ending was realistic and I loved the interactions between Grace and Rocky. Sometimes it was annoying to read "I'm gonna do science" but I appreciate the effort made to explain different parts of the science and maths behind a space journey like this. Could have been much shorter though

I thought this was a fun read. The relationship developed between Ryland and Rocky was really sweet, and I came to really like Rocky (even though he's described looking like a spider...)
Even though the book is very scientific and has a lot of the jargon that I don't really understand, I wasn't too lost. I think that goes down to Weir's ability to simplify it.

I really liked Stratt- everything she does feels consistent in her character.

I did love this so much. I saw lots of people say they found it info-dump-y but I’m such a space nerd I found that part to be really cool. It was fun and heart warming and captivating.

I loved this book! I loved the characters, the world-building, the references to other works of scifi, the surprising ending, the themes of friendship and the scientific sections.
