While the recipes are very good, I will have to say that I'm disappointed that it didn't have the style or simplicity of her earlier book: Vegan with a Vengence.
4.5 stars
I love Isa's cookbooks. They have a wide variety of dishes, and they are all delicious. This one is no exception. I've been tinkering with this specific set of recipes for a full month now, and they have all worked out fantastically. I've not been disappointed by one single dish so far, and would gladly revisit the things that I made previously.
It's worth mentioning, some of these recipes are a little more involved and slightly time-consuming. Since I'm stuck in quarantine right now, I don't mind at all. If you're new to the kitchen though, this might take a bit of patience to navigate and to learn where to spot shortcuts.
I'm one of those culinary enthusiasts that literally annotates cookbooks, so I'm fully geeking out over how lovely these dishes turned out. I will definitely continue to incorporate this book into my regular recipe rotation.
A handful of favorites below:
- Samosa stuffed baked potatoes
- Creole stuffed bell peppers
- Cauliflower & mushroom potpie with black olive crust
- Pumpkin baked ziti with caramelized onions & sage crumb topping
- Almond-quinoa crunch muffins

really excellent cookbook. the intros were definitely targeted at beginner cooks, but still contained some useful tips & insights for people with more experience. the individual recipe headers were mostly charming & the tips throughout seemed useful. I marked all the recipes I wanted to try & there were a lot. though, not going to lie, I skipped the entire seitan, tempeh, tofu section because while I am invested in a partial veganism, I just can't handle those textures.
I did not have a chance to try out the recipes, because there was so much information in the book! I loved all of the instructional content, particularly how to cook every vegetable an see why it and grain. As I was going through the book, I realize there was too much information for me to make my notes and return the book (too lose it for a long time) so I threw in the towel, returned the book and asked for it for my birthday. It does have its downsides, from lackluster layout to a lack of pictures, but it is so informative that I can see why people refer to it as the Vegan Bible. Yes, I did not rate it the highest (again, flaws) but is there a better endorsement than "I borrowed it from the library and decided I needed to own it?"
Follow-up: I did not get it for my birthday, unfortunately. I eventually bought it and use it regularly to look up ingredients.
As well, I did not correct the review because I am not sure what I was trying to say. Damned autocorrect.

This is one huge book of vegan recipes and it does not disappoint. I especially loved the chick pea saiten. So many great recipes. I recommend this to vegans and non-vegans alike.
This book has quite a few totally awesome recipes in it! I love how it gives the feeling of being a complete vegan cookbook - kind of the only book you'll ever need. But, there are a few stars missing in my rating... See, I have two big problems with this book:
1) The use of soy products. There is tofu in most recipes it feels like. I'm not keen on using that much soy products, plus I don't like the taste of tofu. Up until now I haven't used soy products in my cooking more than a few times, and I haven't missed them...
2) Flipping through this book doesn't really make me inspired to cook. There is a serious lack of photos. Plus, the ingredient lists are most often long, and the descriptions are long. The majority of the recipes are too advanced and take too much time to cook with all the steps. Vegan cooking really doesn't have to be this difficult.
Sadly, this book is my least favourite of my vegan cookbooks. I'd use the Oh She Glows Cookbook and Thug Kitchen over this any day.

This is the cookbook that I turn to when I want something impressive to show off 'my' cooking skills. It's a huge doorstop of a vegan cookbook that has a recipe for any occasion or time of day or craving that you can think of. I think everyone needs at least one book like this to refer to for inspiration.
Highlights from the book:
1. Chickpea Cutlets smothered with Mustard Sauce
2. Mushroom and Spinach Strata with Home Fries for a super deluxe brunch
3. Baby Bok Choy with Crispy Shallots and Sesame Seeds
4. Chili Cornmeal-Crusted Tofu and Southwestern Corn Pudding
I could go on because I have a ton of favourites from this book, but those are a couple of them. A must buy!

A brief comment on the title and cover, which the author probably had nothing to do with. Is it really smart to call up Lovecraft and then put a green blob with tentacles on the cover? I already have friends who go yecch! vegan, now they can worry about be hunted or transformed into monsters.
The author did think this name up, hmmm. Well hopefully I'm not insane but it's hard to tell sometimes.
It's hard to say what this book is, while it talks about health, there is no nutritional data included in this book. The basics are somewhat covered but my older cookbooks have many of the recipes listed as well as these basics, it doesn't seem like the ultimate to me. See [b:Thug Kitchen: The Official Cookbook: Eat Like You Give a F*ck|20696032|Thug Kitchen The Official Cookbook Eat Like You Give a F*ck|Thug Kitchen|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1408325061s/20696032.jpg|40015553] for a better vegan beginners book with a bit more pizazz.

Delicious! The recipes are pretty honest about how easy or hard they are. There's a wide enough selection that I feel okay about looking for meals that my new dairy-free, egg-free requires without sacrificing flavor and variety. I also love the reference section for "How to cook ___".
It's really handy and stays open on the counter without having to use soup cans to hold down the pages. I only wish that there were more pictures.
