This was another book I picked up for possible T-day recipes. I'm not vegan or anything, but I'd heard of it and it was actually in at the library on the day we hiked down to look.
It was fun to flip-through - the tone is sort of fun conversational, like you were hanging out with a hip friend of a friend who is walking you through cooking vegan. On the other hand, I thought it suffered from the depressingly common "let's try to make non-vegan stuff vegan". Some of this I can live with, but some of the recipes were just depressing.
I did save one recipe to try to make (the mujedarrah, something I've had before in a restaurant and loved and have been meaning to try to make for several years now), so we'll see if it succeeds.

Haven't had much time to cook yet, so I can't fully review this yet, but dude, there's a recipe for ice cream. And that's important stuff, especially since my favorite soy ice cream is no longer stocked near me. But if this is anything at all like her other cookbooks, the other recipes will be awesome too...
Everything sounds delicious and I loved the full-color photo insert in the middle. I'm apparently a visual learner when it comes to cooking, so I always hope for more pictures of the food itself, but Isa and Terry always make their instructions not only easy to follow but fun to read. We were given a copy of this book as a gift and it has been a pleasant surprise! :)
Getting a normal meat cookbook and converting the recipes into vegan ones is much easier than converting these idiotic nonsense neolithic measuring units into metric ones/SI system that 100% of the intelligent world uses.
I've made 3 recipes from this book and they have all been extremely tasty: Spaghetti Squash with Black Beans and Pineapple Salsa, Collard Greens with a Smoky Marinade, and Seitanic Red a& White Bean Jambalaya. Plus I read through the beginning of the book which offers tips on how to cut out some of the fat even in your vegan diet and the opening chapters provide tips on cooking everything from different veggies (like how to roast eggplant or cook your greens) to cooking whole grains like quinoa and barley. Definitely useful, definitely tasty - I think this book will have to go on my wishlist for my birthday!
Bumped this up another star after making a Spicy Peanut Eggplant soup from the book, which sounded odd given the ingredient list, but turned out to be amazing.

I adore this cookbook. I've been carrying it around with me since I got it and making as many things as I can -- so far everything has been wonderful & I'm trying out 2 new things for Thanksgiving.
Very helpful. Witty and we'll written. she really knows her stuff. It had helped me understand vegan cooking and not be so scared to switch from vegetarian to vegan. I know I don't have to be miserable or starve lol. She's amazing and very original. I am buying all her cookbooks.
Moskowitz and Romero seek to make every comfort food ever vegan friendly and--within reason--succeed. This is a very tasty cookbook: few, if any, adjustments to recipes were needed. Most recipe ingredients can be found in regular or health-food groceries. All terms used in the recipes are defined in the Introduction, which also includes a primer on how to prepare most vegetables that are accessible in grocery stores. Great place to try out veganism.
This book is great for veg/vegan recipes. I found this via their blog (Vegan Cupcake in Hell) and have made a few of the recipes so far... they've been surprisingly good. I should make an effort to go to this cookbook more often.
