Um do I have a new favorite fantasy series?

As I was hoping, the second book of this series helped erase a lot of the problems I had with the first. There was still some slight issues, such as why Karris, one of the elite blackguards, seemed for the most part unable to win a fight. Kip, I'm pleased to say, has become one of my favourite characters; and his grandfather makes an excellent villain.

I was also relieved to find this copy had a glossary and character list.

I look forward to starting The Broken Eye.

4½ stars.

It's a bit difficult to explain why it took me so long to read this book, because every time I picked it up, I immediately loved the story and the characters. I just think that I got tired of really long books and put it back on the shelf during the Fall. But when I picked it up again yesterday, I managed to read the last 200 pages in two evenings - BAM!

The politics and magic system both became more interesting as the book when on

I liked this book better than the first, but it still had it's issues. I got tired of knowing the truth when the characters react to the partial truths that they know. Once is enough, anything more than that is too much. The characters also started to get on my nerves after awhile. They all seemed so whiny. But, there was just enough of a cliff hanger that I want to know what happens next.
