This isn't my first experience with LitRPG, but I feel that this series is primarily aimed at a male audience. I received the ARC edition of this book, and I immediately felt an ick factor, which is unusual for me since I live in a household full of boys—three sons and my husband. I’m a girl who enjoys video games, comics, and attending events where I can dress up as characters. Additionally, I am a teacher who dresses up for my students, and I have a degree in English, so it's not like I can't relate, but this book just did not cut it.

These books have no business being as good as they are.

Each book could be a rough copy of the previous and they'd probably still be good. But instead, each one changes something to make the story significantly different.

I got confused who was who- too many characters, but loved it overall. Samantha stole the show.

One of the best audiobook series (re narration) out there.

Did I mean to spend most of my Labor Day weekend reading this book? No…no I did not. But then while driving E to college we decided this audiobook was the best thing to listen to and really, once started, these books are hard to put down. So, yes, I made it through another installment of Dungeon Crawler Carl. (I’m also amused that I think there are a few people who have started this series at my recommendation and are now ahead of me!)

This book follows Carl through level 6 of the dungeon, where we are introduced to “hunters.” (People from the outside world who enter the dungeon for fun/sport.) There are lots of opportunities to learn more about the outside world, which I generally enjoy. At the same time, the plot and Carl are getting progressively darker, which isn’t bad but does have Carl making decisions that just annoy me. Mike compared it to Harry Potter in this way, and now that I have that in my head I can’t unsee it - both the getting darker and also the protagonist being frustrating. Not that this stopped me from enjoying the book in the slightest!

This series is (still) great, highly recommend - just be warned that I’m pretty sure each book is bigger than the last!
