Definitely compelling novel. I like the way it went into politics as well as religion, and think Alina’s development is really well written. I love Nikolai and still think the Darkling is a baddie. Mal is meh (and I’m still mad there wasn’t more on him kissing Zoya). The cliffhanger at the end of the book is also nice

Ok so I'm gonna review standout characters from each book of the series I think. This book it's Mal. Now, he gets a lot of flack from the fandom for being a little bitch boy and toxic but honestly I think he's the most honest and genuine character in the whole series. Everything Mal does that people hate is such a genuine human reaction, like, he is selfish and protective and he wants Alina to choose them, not the world, but even when she chooses the world, he follows her and does his best to keep her safe. He has a lapse with his drinking and fighting, but again, a human reaction.  I enjoyed the book, it's a good second installation, looking forward to the third book.
