This is so cute.. I just can’t..
Loved this volume! Really liked how much we can see of someones journey through finding out their sexuality.

This is still really cute - the characters are delightful and lovely, and the book is like a giant marshmallow, but with the added element of the fear of coming out, not as gay but as bisexual. The drawings are really lovely and they do make your heart melt at times, and much like the first volume this is a really good series, and well worth the hype behind them.

Kind of getting sick of the only conflict here being cishet guys with no dimension. It all feels very vapid. The characters still feel empty because the writing relies on the reader to relate to them and fill in the blanks. Same with the romance but at least that’s cute.
Can we never escape Harry Potter references? Another problem is that the pacing is so egregiously bad. The story keeps telling you Nick and Charlie are BEST FRIENDS who spend ALL THEIR TIME together but we hardly get any meaningful interactions between them and when we do it’s collages which adds to the problem of characters never being fleshed out. They’re tropes that you’re supposed to fill in yourself. The supporting cast minus maybe Tao get little to no personality aside from being gay, nice, and a random trait from a shuffling hat (Tao cant do this because he’s straight and not white so he has to have a real character).
It’s all very… yaoi? I know Alice Oseman doesn’t like yaoi themself but it follows the conventions of either yaoi or tumblr shipping which are bit like 2 sides of the same coin. We’re just going through the same regurgitated plot lines in every other gay story with nothing to add. I know if this was het or wlw romance we would all be rightfully yawning but it’s gay men so y’all will eat up lines from a 14 year old’s 2012 tumblr oc. It’s all so very stale.
