Ooh, I feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I'd need a cup of chocolate and one of Hudson's cupcakes to make this moment memorable, but since I'm in the train that will have to wait.

This book was exactly what I needed after so many apocalyptic stories and/or dystopias. It may not be perfect, but I had a great time reading it.

Maybe I come back other day and write a full review... Maybe not, we'll see. Right now I'm still savouring the last pages :)

Sarah Ockler is quickly becoming a big name in YA contemporary and Bittersweet may be her best book yet. Bittersweet is the perfect mix of fun, fresh, romantic, and angsty. It definitely has a little something for every reader.

Hudson is not a perfect main character. In fact, she is very flawed. She is selfish, rude, and sometimes mean. However, these are some of the main reasons why I loved her. She is a typical teenager yet she is forced to grow up early in life. She pays bills, she watches her little brother, she works, and she goes to school. She is very responsible, loving, caring, and sometimes sweet. She is a multi-faceted character who you can't help but root for.

Hudson's brother, Bug, was my favorite. He was so odd and cute! I dare you not to fall in love with him. Hudson's mom and dad aren't as easy to love. Her dad left them when he divorced their mom and he very rarely gets in touch. Their mom is always working and always forcing Hudson to miss out on things so she can watch Bug or work at the diner. Hudson's best friend, Dani, is fun and quirky but she has her bad moments. Admittedly, Hudson probably deserved those moments. As for the boys, I loved them all. Each hockey boy was unique in his own way and totally hilarious. Then there were Will and Josh. Will was a lot more vulnerable than he let on and he was a good guy. Josh, though, stole my heart. He was sweet, caring, funny, nice, and a little mysterious. He was one-of-a-kind. He and Hudson has some pretty funny interactions throughout the book that cracked me up.

The story doesn't immediately grab your attention but it really does take very little time for you to get into the book. The first 30 or 40 pages set up the backstory and from then on the book is very gripping. There wasn't a ton of stuff going on but that doesn't mean it wasn't a 100% awesome story that will keep you reading late into the night.

Overall, Bittersweet has earned a place on my favorites shelf. This super cute contemporary is one that you will want to read over and over again.

Few spoilers ahead, but knowing me when do I not spoil?

I have to say I'm a wee bit disappointed just because Hudson was getting on my nerves many times. I loved this whole concept with baking, ice-skating, cute fluffy romance. I'm currently craving cupcakes and now want to start baking (even though I burn water). I'm just slightly disappointed with how things progressed through this story, it was a light easy read but I couldn't help but get upset with some issues.

When we were first introduced to Josh and he asked Hudson if she could help her with his skating this is how I thought it was going to go: They were going to spend a lot of time together and fall hopelessly in love, she would spend more time on the ice, blah blah blah.

What happened: She trains the whole hockey team which wasn't even that much fun to me. She becomes a waitress for her mom, relives the whole being a bad bestfriend, and gets sucked into a "love triangle"-Many kissing and romance scenes with Will but just ONE and a half with Josh which bothered the hell out of me. I don't understand why there needed to be such a plot with Will in this book, just throw her to Josh and I'll be all fine and dandy. Anyway next, her bailing at the competition which basically just threw the whole purpose out of this whole book, we keep going on and on about how her family is struggling with money and this entire time I'm thinking she could win the competition money and help her family out!

Many issues for me but I did like some things, mostly the humor. I adored Hudson's funny side and creative side with the cupcakes, but I was just so stressed out with everything she was trying to balance with. Dani was a great character to me in the beginning, I don't like how she became distant though Hudson was a sucky friend, couldn't blame Dani that much honestly I would leave too.

The one and truly reason I loved this so much was because of Josh and Bug. Josh was such a sweet guy and perfect and ughhh I love himm. I'm so upset we didn't get a chapter where Hudson met his sister, that would have been amazing. And Bug! Literally the cutest and awesome little brother ever, he made me laugh and I wanted to discuss theories on how Santa and his reindeers travel the world.

I thought it was an alright book and I did laugh but I wish I liked it more.

Adorable. :) I really enjoyed this, and the book was truly... Bittersweet... But it was really nice at the end, and I like how it wasn't romance centered, so it was mainly a contemporary with some really cute romance, and the contemporary was really well written. I could really connect with Hudson and understand her pain. And the characters were alive, having their own personalities, especially her brother. :) He's so adorable!

A very enjoyable contemporary for...when you need a contemporary! :D
