As an assigned reading for a class, I started out reading it without enjoyment. I honestly don't know what the book is about since I listened to half of it on audio and I fell asleep somewhere in the beginning. But I guess it could be a good read for anyone interested in Congo river stories.
The symbolism of man's loss of ethical balance (my interpretation) when societal restraint and norms are removed. Have to wonder whether Conrad, when he wrote this, was aware of the degree of savagery by the European colonists in central Africa (particularly Zaire). He probably was.
Supremely boring until we dive deeply into this novel at school. Read for AP Lit.

I mean, he’s racist but for a white man in the 1800s trying to inform people about colonialism and what the British were doing in Africa I guess it’s “woke” for the time period. Reading “things fall apart” after this which in very exited for because Marlow was not a lovable, even likable narrator so
