This novel is an incredibly difficult read but that is probably due to my current level of comprehension. Despite that, I am still able to appreciate the writing especially towards the end of the novel. I will likely revisit this novel in the future and hopefully then I will be able to squeeze out the entirety of the message that the author had intended to convey to readers.

Holy shit this guy could write!
Gorgeous language all the way through. Story v familiar to me *gestures vaguely to Francis Ford Coppola* but cool to see it in its original format. The emphasis on the minutia of organisational failings and the constantly increasing pace of storytelling is very fun.
Knocking a star off for the racism which is prominent uncomfortable and unavoidable

Wanted to read it after listening to an actor talk about how Joseph Conrad describes the pathetic, sleazy, pale evil of "normal people". Read about the evil of resource exploitation and conniving White men.
But couldn't get over the fact that this book was neither anti-racist, nor materially anti-colonial. And definitely strong traces of misogyny, which some research about Joseph himself confirmed. So it put me off.
I would say there is better literature on the same themes that I'd enjoy reading more. But if you really want to, it's a super short book so you wouldn't lose much. Some passages are very vivid.

En komplicerad bok att recensera. Den är full av rasism, men ses av många som en kritik mot kolonialismen.
Graphic: Racial slurs, Racism, Colonisation
Moderate: Death, Fatphobia
Minor: Cannibalism
Heart of Darkness makes me feel dumb. I just... don't get it. This is the second time I've read it, but with the same result. I'm a failure.
