The plot twist was spoiled in a way and sometimes the man characters gave me a headache. I would recommend this if anyone wanted to read a poly relationship in a fantasy setting.

This was much better than I expected. The smut was so well written and it didn't feel repetitive, which is a common problem in other books. I know there was a warning of breeding being in this book, although it wasn't such a huge plot point until the end. I still can't get behind a pregnancy trope so that brought the star ranking down a little. The vampires were hot af and Mina was a baddie from page one, definitely worth a read.

• straight up smut and it was hot as hell
• I’m not even going to pretend to have understood the reasonings behind any of the “rituals”
• definitely needed to be longer, I need more slow burn angst

TWs: dubious consent, breeding, knifeplay, blood play, abusive parent (father)

Man, do I love a good vampire romance and this is it. This reverse harem vampire novel by Katee Robert is absolutely delicious, pun intended. Mina is dhampir, half vampire/half human, and her dick of a dad has shipped her off to a big deal vampire named Malachi. She has two jobs while she's with Malachi: let him feed off her blood and get pregnant, effectively binding Malachi to her father's power. Mina and Malachi have an instant attraction, but Mina's no pushover. Just as they're starting to understand each other, an old friend and lover of Malachi's shows up: Wolf. Wolf is hot and a little unhinged. Mina doesn't know whether he wants to eat her in a good way or a bad way and then an even older friend and ex-lover shows up: Rylan.
Together, they have to navigate all the unexpected attraction and figure out how to free Malachi and Mina from her father's trap.

This book is very spicy and involves MF/MMF/MMMF situations. Some content warnings that stood out to me would be: some light dubious consent, biting (like so much biting but it's SO GOOD), blood play, aggressive sex, VERY aggressive (but consensual) sex, loss of virginity. I believe that Katee Robert has CW listings for her books on her website, so check that out. This is the first in a trilogy and does end in a cliffhanger, but I do believe the trilogy will end with a HEA.

I love all four of these idiots and want them to be HAPPY.

A good erotica book is a book first with erotica scenes and elements. This "story" is a bunch of stitched together sex scenes with a paper thin plot. The magic system is even more thinner and is just an excuse for more sex. A lot of world building seemed thrown together, and some of it didn't make sense.

Romance erotica books are also supposed to have romance I  it. All Mina has is this vague "connection" that is all tell no show because they fuck more than they talk. These characters barely know anything about each other, and they don't really bother to ask. Plus, there are several spelling errors.

The male leads are just flat archetypes of characters. They have some potential to be fleshed out, but it never explored. It never touched on how they know each other.
It is never touched on how Malachi got trapped. It is mentioned the last sacrificed killed herself and never mentioned again.
Pretty much anything that doesn't directly lead into sex was dropped.

Mina as a character internal acts like she is being empowered to make her own choices for once. In reality, she is simple going along with what the male leads want. She loses all rational thought when horny. She doesn't really do much. The sex and "plot" happen to her. She doesn't really actively make things happen. She is basically just your average female protagonist that's pitched as "strong" and "empowered" when she really makes no choices and seems to exist only in relation to her love interests.

At least the sex itself is good. The author can write excellent sex scenes. It is every other aspect of this book that has failed to impress. There is some room for  for fleshing out characters by having relationship building and interactions outside of sex. It just seems that the author only cares about erotic portion of the book and nothing else. At that point, I might as well just browse Ao3 or Literotica and get sex of a similar quality that's free and takes up less of my time by not pretending there is more to the story than there is. This book is what you get if you stretch a porn without a plot tagged one shot into the length of a novel.

Plot and characterization does need to suffer because of explicitness. I don't plan to continue with the series.
