Tessa Bailey is normally hit-or-miss for me but I’m giving this a right-down-the-middle 3 stars. I liked the story, didn’t love all the elements, but overall enjoyed the quick read.
This book was a strong 4.25 star book. It redeemed the “A Vine Mess” franchise for me.
Starting any book with: “For as long as August Cates could remember his dick had ruined everything.” is how you freaking start a book. She had me hook, line, and sinker (get it?).
Natalie is a complex character that I feel like so many of us can relate to. She’s caught stuck being pigeonholed into her party girl role in her family. When truly all she wants to do is prove everyone wrong about her. I feel like a lot of us can relate. We just want to be let in and involved and valued. Her character growth into a more confident badass had me.
Now for August, where do I start? I loved that he was for Natalie from the beginning. I loved that he was open and honest about his intentions and his feelings for Natalie and he consistently backed that up. Also a navy seal? Damn.
I do like Tessa Bailey’s writing style a lot because it’s easy to read and yet detailed enough to really transport me to these places. I love that she gives us both sides POV. I think that’s a really powerful rom com tool.
Definitely recommend this book! And I liked Julian way more in this one than his own book lol.
