This book is one of those fun summer reads. It's fairly light, but brave enough to tackle some pretty heavy issues at the same time. It also wins for friendship. I consider the first one the best of the series, but on a whole most follow a similar pattern. I never really cared for Bridget, but I liked the other characters well enough.
This is Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood for a teen audience. Good stuff.
good book. The movie acctually stayed pretty true to the book. I saw the movie and then read the book.
Read it when I was 13 and loved it. Great book about friendship and love and all that jazz
Aw man, this was exactly what I needed to read at the moment. Having been obsessed with the film adaptation of this, I knew I had to pick up the actual book and read it. And it did not disappoint. I thought the writing was short, but simple and beautiful; it conveyed all the feelings of growing up when you're 15 or 16 and looking at things in the world with a new set of eyes. It made me feel for those summer months, where days sometimes seem endless and short at the the same time- as though time is moving right before your eyes, but seems to slow down at certain times. I loved every single girl's story and the side characters that branched off from them; Lena with Kostos, Tibby with Bailey, Carmen with her father, and Bridget with Eric. It brought tears to my eyes and I now want to make my own 15 year old sister read this and see if she can take what I got out of it. I wish I had picked this up when I was younger but it's never too late to read something!
