This book was not what I was expecting at all based on the description. I haven’t decided it that’s a bad thing or a good thing. I thought with the whole being kidnapped by the mafia, Emily would be more of a fighter against them. Instead, she went along with them almost immediately and had barely any fight against the idea that she had literally just been kidnapped. I mean she just watched Cameron literally kill someone right in front of her and she showed little to no fight against him. The concept and storyline had potential but the story-telling just wasn’t good. I wanted to like the romance between Cameron and Emily, but they just seemed way too slow that I just didn’t want to wait for them to have some fire. There was honestly no banter between them which I would assume would be between a mafia boss and a girl he kidnapped. The only part I really liked was Rocco, then the author had to do THAT and it pretty much lost me from that point onward. I found myself stopping often in this book because I got bored so easily and just needed to take a break and do something else.

It’s not often I can’t find anything redeeming about a book that I finish. I think I just read a YA “mob” book about almost 30 year olds that included some light kissing, no curse words, and no real action. There was insta-love without any real character development. The heroine seemed like an idiot. The big bad crime lord kept blushing??? And worst of all, it ended on a cliff hanger. So even as terrible as this was, I can’t help but be curious about the second book. UGH.

Even beautiful stories can be at times frustrating. Oh. my. god that ending broke my heart [I'm partly okay with the other part... still, goddamn THAT ENDING.]. I'm definitely going to read the next one and find out what happens next.

Emily Sheppard is a naive, rich girl studying at Callister University. She refuses to take her parents' money, so she works on a library to pay for her expenses and lives independently. She decided to stay on her dorm for the summer and is usually jogging to kill her boredom. Mostly, she drops by on the cemetery for Bill's gravesite, her brother who passed away because of overdose and for the man in gray sweater. She was kidnapped by Cameron, who is a drug lord for witnessing a brutal crime and also keeping her for safety reasons. As she spends time with him and his crew, she learns everything about the drug business and also about his life. She somewhat feels safe around him and can't help being drawn to him. Eventually, she falls in love with her captor. Still, it's a question mark because they both live in different worlds and being together is risky.

The story isn't that dark and graphic [mild violence, mild steamy scenes -- still romantic though], the twists and turns are so good and there are lots of revelations that will keep you reading this book. They're so good! For the love of crime/mob bosses, I love Cameron to bits. The romance between Emily and Cameron is so good and I love the development! What made my jaw dropped was the ending. It took me minutes to recover on that. Gonna read the next book is ASAP.

Final rating: 4.5 / 5 stars

that did not just happen I need the 2nd book like right now

Loved the epilogue but everything before it was subpar. I didn’t establish a connection with most of the characters, besides Rocco, until the last chapter which is far too late.

I read this book. Then read the reviews, and where I do agree with people that the sex scenes should have been included and that yes a 26 year old drug lord should be swearing... alot.. and he's not. That did not changed my mind on this book. I LOVED IT!! I see people always talking about "book boyfriends" and I'm not afraid to admit that I never really understood what they meant until I read this book, and met Cameron James Hillard!!! I can't stress enough how amazing I thought this book was, and I want everyone to read it so I can discuss it with them!! It was so face paced I literally sat down with it and couldn't stop reading. This fell into my favorites list very very quickly! I highly recommend!!!!!
