This book started out really well and I got some good heebie jeebies from the part of the book that takes place in 1732. It was well written and creepy.

The modern day portion of the book was written in a whole different vein and just didn't inspire dread in me even when it meant to. I think one reason was because the character of Devin was too pushy for my taste and really rubbed me the wrong way. I never felt a connection between or with the two main characters so I found it difficult to get invested in the story.

I'll not be rereading this one but it is nice to see that almost everyone else who has read it has enjoyed it.
