I just really like the style and flow of the writing of the In Death books, and this one follows form. Pretty light on suspense and completely lacking personal danger to our home team, this installment wraps up and verbalizes some Eve character development that has been going on for a while (all the Christmas books seem to do this, as if the holiday forces a focus on the personal). With that said, there are no new revelations here regarding Eve or Roarke, and development of ancillary characters is almost completely absent. Eve is softening a bit in her personal life, but puts up a front of fighting it.
The book has considedable social commentary on the place of women in society, which made me wonder. Does the author think we won't be beyond that in 45 years? I haven't noticed that in previous books, so I wonder at it here. It serves the purpose of making us heartily dislike the victim and at least one suspect, but it feels a bit old-fashioned.
Still, there's a murder, with lots of suspects. There's a Christmas party. There's some sex and clothesand touching gestures. It's fun.

Good Book
Amazon is making me write a review so this gets a rating. It’s a good murder mystery with a great main character.

This is one of my favorites! Great emotional moments, cameos from almost everyone in the Dallas universe, a shady victim and a killer twist. Toss in some sweet gift giving, a lovely interlude between Eve and Roarke and some great “cease fire” interludes with Summerset and Trina and this is an easy reread!!
