Festive in Death

J.D. Robb

4.08 AVERAGE

This is reread but in audibook. One of my favourite books in the series, easily in my top 10. As per from book 1, this book is narrated by Susan Eriksen and she did a great job as usual. I find myself wanting to strangle Eve at times and I write that with much affection. She kept harping about Summerset having a stick up his arse but really, I think she has a stick up her arse too. She can be tad black and white at times, it always Roarke (ahhh, I want to marry him, I really do) who makes her see shades of grey. Speaking of Roarke, every book made me fall so deeply in enamored with him. He is so perfect and oh-so-swoony. Anyway, can someone draw me Roarke and Eve gargantuan mansion? I have a vivid imagination but even I cannot fathom how humongous their mansion could be.

I want this series never to end.

It's always strange to read a Christmas book outside of December. I really like the way this book flowed with Eve exchanging gifts and her big holiday shindig at Roarke Mansion with all her friends. That was a nice touch to see everyone in party mode. I wasn't happy the way they tried to pin the killer because I didn't agree with the clues. Luckily, the epilogue confirmed my suspicions and the real murderer was apprehended. It was a nice cozy book that was just shy of a perfect read. All I know is that I definitely want an invitation to the next Eve/ Roarke bonanza, please.

has more of Eve reflecting and involved in her home life and friends. Good thing as the victim in this murder is thoroughly unlikeable (this probably reflects real life for a number of murder victims) I appreciated the change especially as it led to more interesting exchanges with Summerset. I am really straining my mind these days trying to put features together for McNabb and Peabody.

I've missed these characters so much.

Fast-paced story with some nice character development. Very enjoyable read.
fast-paced

A nice amount of relationships to go with the murder.

I love this series. This entry was especially good. Eve did not like the victim but still did her job to the best of her ability. I felt this further proved her good character and commitment to justice. I always enjoy stories about Eve that take place at Christmas. It was lovely to see that while she is still befuddled by gift giving that she has gotten the hang of it. I loved Feeney's gift to Roarke and Eve. Eve's gifts to her friends and Roarke were also wonderful. This story gave us an opportunity to catch up with characters from previous books which is always fun. The mystery was a good one and was settled satisfactorily. All in all this was a great entry into this series. A definite re-read for me.

Its Christmas and Dallas needs to close the case before the holiday. Typical fun interactions between her and her mates. Need to find out who killed the scumbag no one likes anyway. Good relaxing read.

I was disappointed.

While any new J.D. Robb title is better than just about any other author--I was really disappointed in this book. I hope the next one is better.

So I picked this book up for a reread--and I had forgotten who the killer was. I had forgotten some of the things in it and I enjoyed it. Adding a star.
