Festive in Death

J.D. Robb

4.08 AVERAGE

Actually 3.5 stars. I didn't enjoy this as much as Concealed in Death, but I wasn't bored either. There is nothing new here, but it's always fun to see Eve Dallas dealing with social events as only she can, with a mixture of horror, cynicism and reluctant acceptance. The spirited interaction between Eve, a party designer and florist is worth the price of the book alone. And there are lots of opportunities to revisit favorite secondary characters, including almost all of the other members of the homicide team, Nadine, Louise, and Charles. Plus Trina shows a bit of hidden depth, and Eve and Summerset have to make nice for Christmas. I've long since stopped buying this series, but I still want to be at the top of the library reserve list when they are released.

3.5

Ahh when the page count gives away the ending. It was good though. I was hoping those extra pages when everything about the case seemed tied up meant that NR put in a good twist but alas.

Eve and Roarke were very lovely dicey in this one. Or as close to it as they get. I loved how they realized they're violent. They're very comfortable in their relationship now and it shows.

It is Christmas time again and Eve and Roarke are gearing up for their Christmas party. Eve has to solve a murder of a personal trainer that was a huge narcissist jerk. And the possible people list of people that might have had a reason to kill him is fairly long due to his practice of drugging, raping and then blackmailing his clients when they think that under the drugs they were consenting to the sex. The supporting cast at this point is what makes the books so enjoyable to read.

Solid addition to the series. Loved spending time with so many favorite characters. I was off through much of the book at guessing the killer, but did figure I out who but not why before the end.

Long wait until my next Dallas and Roarke fix.

Oh man the dead guy was SCUM.
Summerset bribes Eve into participating in the orgainising of the Christmas party at her house while she investigates and Eve discovers the joy of giving to friend (while hating the entire shopping experience.)

It's a fun visit with two people I like reading about with some murder attached, plus their extended family.

It's amazing to me that after 39 books in the "In Death" series, Nora Roberts can keep the magic coming. Guess that's why she's queen.

I was pleased to see I couldn't guess the "whodunnit" until the end, I liked seeing all the familiar faces (and some new ones--loved Felicity!) and found it the finest kind of comfort read. I look forward to #40.

Another solid Eve Dallas story. I liked seeing a new side of her with the deal she made. It was great. Also, I am in total agreement with her about why do women need bags?! Pockets work. Keys, money, Kindle. That's all I'll ever need, bags/purses make no sense to me.
