Festive in Death

J.D. Robb

The Narrator reading with a cold was VERY distracting!

Oh Eve Dallas, how I've missed you and your snarky ways.

For those that haven't read the In Death books, start with book number one. You can read this as a stand alone, but you'll love it and want to read the rest, so just go back and start with 1.

Trey Zeigler is the worst sort of man. He drugs women to get them pliable and willing to sleep with him. Then takes money to keep it a secret.
Trina and her friend find him dead. Eve is pissed off that she has to help her nemesis, Trina, god of hair and make-up.
The more they uncover about Trey, and the people he took advantage of; it turns into a mess.
Then another death occurs. Crap. Was it the same killer? Or was it someone else with totally unrelated reasons? Or someone helping Trey's killer?

These are fun re-reads because I love the characters. JD/Nora does an amazing job developing characters.

JD Robb/Nora Roberts has done it again. I love Eve Dallas and Roarke, Peabody, McNab and the rest of the gang. They're all here in this book and it doesn't disappoint.

It's December 2060 and Eve is hoping to close a case before Christmas. While she and Peabody try to determine who killed a physical trainer that everyone loved to hate and had reason to kill, Eve also has to fret about the upcoming holidays. She has to shop -- Oh the horror! -- for gifts for her friends. She wonders why she needs to buy gifts, why have friends, and what would they want or like, anyway. Then she realizes she'll have to suffer through the annual Christmas party that she and Roarke host. How is she going to survive that? Will she survive the pre-party primping by Trina? And will Trina, for that matter?

I just love how Eve is coming to grips with her love for Roarke and his for her, her circle of friends (how it ever grew past Mavis and Roarke still seems a mystery to her), and the mysteries of relationships. The Christmas party discussion on holiday dating is hysterical. I also love the thoughtful gifts exchanged.

Well done!

It's been 39 books. They have been married for over 2 years by this time but this is the first book where she is openly and consistently affectionate with her husband. Its the first book where I can believe a little bit that she doesnt take him for granted and that she truly truly loves him right back. Cant believe its taken this long. I get not wanting to display affection in public but I need to see it more when its just the two of them or when they are home, less of her resisting that almost all the time and I was happy to see it here. We also see her actually initiating a lot of it here which Im absolutely here for. Im tired of him having to constantly make the effort to be involved, to be loving and caring. It has to go both ways. I really hope she doesnt go back to being cold, self-serving, and inconsiderate towards him. It may not be the intention but it sometimes reads that way. Enjoyed this one more than others in terms of their relationship growth.

A lighter than usual romp for Ms Robb but lots of fun

A solid entry in the series. I wish there had been more Peabody though.
