This is a beautiful and heartbreaking tale. I was originally going to give it 4 stars, but when I saw it only had a 2.9 I upped it to a 5 because it deserves more than 2.9.

... Wow. I had never heard of this prior to an English survey course I'm taking this semester, but I'm definitely glad my professor included it in the syllabus. This was a little hard for me to read because the writing style is just hard to take in, especially with the way it's formatted on the page and the fact that there's next to no dialogue. I didn't pick up on some of the plot because I was so busy trying to understand the style. But the overall plot/effect/purpose is amazing and this should be spread everywhere.

This book has great historical significance. And I've read it twice, am a graduate student in English literature, and just can't get on board with it.

I can be pressed to give it two stars, since parts of it have their moments. But I just get so bored.
