oh God this book. I know it was written in the 1600s but that doesn't make the racism and sexism any easier to stand. basically the moral of this story is 'slavery isn't great but it isn't the worst either, but oh God once you start enslaving royalty THEN you've crossed the line.' at least it was short, any longer and I would have gone insane.

I find it interesting to read perspectives like these from the time itself. Needless to say tho, it is filled with colonialism, supremacy ideas and such. Behn offers a teeny tiny but of criticism to the horrors.

Okay book, but I was struggling reading it because of the “old language”. Can't quite see why it is on the 1001 books to read before you die list.

As a bid for social justice, circa 1688, it is an interesting though clearly dated piece of social commentary.
