I couldn’t put this one down.
I never expected to love a story about the Monarchy of England as much as I did.
The betrayal, the love, the friendships, the family,.. all of if was utter perfection! I didn’t once feel like I was reading a book.
The storyline was amazing, how out mc adapted to life inside of a castle was truly a joy to read. I loved every minute of this book and I can’t wait for the second book to come out!

Reading Aimee Carter's fantastic 'Royal Blood' immediately before moving onto Prince Harry's 'Spare' was some coincidental timing given both book's denouncement of the intrusion of the media. Out of the two, it is fair to say that Carter's book shone with a full realised cast of characters and gripping mystery as its core.
Evan Bright is the secret illegitimate daughter of the King of England. This lineage stems from Edward choosing the crown over Wallis Simpson, the different path leading to our current alternative reality. As soon as the press find out about Evan, they rabidly pursue her and twist everything, made even more bloodthirsty when Evan is implicated in a boy's death at a party. So many layers of intrigue!
I am thrilled this book is at least the start of a trilogy because I fell in love with these characters. Feisty Evan, strong and dependable Kit, sassy Maisie - I am excited to follow them as Evan traverses her new life as a princess. The mystery at the centre of this book, regarding the death of sleazy, son of a Rupert Murdoch type Jasper Cunningham, is balanced well with exploring Evan's past being bounced between boarding schools and the feeling of neglect from her absent father.
An explosive, smart and joyous start to the series. I would like to take this opportunity to put in my order for the next book and a Netflix series please! 5 stars *****
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher who provided an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Entertaining read, just suspend your belief in reality a bit if you know a lot about the royal family! Very dynamic writing.
Not a book I’d planned to read but got as a Christmas present.

This story was bonkers, but the narration was fantastic.
(ARC received from NetGalley) YA’LL this was so JUICY!!!! Evan is the illegitimate daughter of the King and has kept the secret all her life. She’s a rebel with a cause, but only weeks before her 18th birthday, she finally goes too far. Actions have severe consequences and she gets shipped off to the royal palace to meet her father and his family for the first time. A rocky start becomes catastrophic when Evan gets caught up in the death of the son of a huge tabloid (The Sun). This story was fast paced, heartwarming, heartbreaking and tackled some difficult topics including SA, how mental illness is misrepresented and how the press can spread very harmful rumors. I’m frothing at the mouth for book 2!
I’d recommend to anyone that’s a fan of reality TV, tabloid news, The Royals (the show on E! not the literal royal family of the UK), and “I’d Tell You I Love You, but Then I’d Have to K*ll You” series by Ally Carter.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC of this novel. 4.5/5 stars.
I'm not going to lie, I initially thought this was a vampire novel. It is not a vampire novel, I repeat, it is not a vampire novel AND I really need to start reading the summaries more.
Anyways, this novel? PHEMONEMAL. It had all the royalty vibes, plus princess diaries vibes, plus murder mystery?? Evan (Evie, Evangeline) is one of the most realistic YA protagonists I've read in a while to where she actually does not deal with a complete and sudden upheaval of her life by getting over it. She actually lays in bed for a while and doesn't get up. She refuses to see the King of England...her dad...who she's the bastard child of. Her mom has Schizophrenia, and it works so well in the novel to destigmatize it. This also may be the first murder mystery YA I've read in a while where I did not guess who actually was at fault.
There is attempted sexual assault though, and it's a big plot point. Definitely could have used a content warning before reading it. Otherwise? Phenomenal. I could not put it down and I'm so excited for hopefully more books in this series.

An illegitimate daughter, a 1/2 sister who will become the Queen some day, more than one scandal rocking the world of the Royal Family & loads of mystery? Along with a blossoming romance? What else could possibly go wrong…I honestly thought by the front cover I was going to be reading a vampire story…I was wrong. And after reading the story, the cover makes so much more sense. I cannot WAIT for the second book to come out. I need more of Evan and Kit and Tibby and Jenkins and even Evan’s sister Maisie.
