I admit that this is not high literature and that I've added it to my all-time-favorites shelf alongside such books as Housekeeping and Dangerous Liaisons. Lonely Werewolf Girl is no Housekeeping. Oh but how I loved it.

Those of you who have talked to me in the past month or so that I've been reading this book know that I will take the smallest lull in conversation to proselytize my friends in the way of the awesomeness of Lonely Werewolf Girl.

I determined after about 70 pages that the reason I was able to read a 500+ page book while my brain is that egg in a frying pan (this is your brain on teaching) was that the book is kind of like a TV melodrama. Each chapter is but a few pages long and each follows a different character. It's just like watching Grey's Anatomy: first a scene with characters A and B, then a scene with characters C and D, then characters A and C, and so on as the plot becomes more complex and the story lines intertwine.

Also, the book is completely ridiculous and caused me to laugh aloud a lot. And read things to Jeff, lying next to me in bed.

Go. Read. Be happier.

I wasn't too sure if I'd like this book - thoughts of it being like the Twilight travesty. However, I really enjoyed it. Interesting characters, good back story, paced well - left me wanting to know more about Kalix and her family.

I loved this book. It's tempting to think of it as MacBeth with werewolves, but I think that's just because the werewolves are Scottish nobility and there's all kinds of strategems and alliances and betrayals and power struggles and that sort of thing. It's hilarious and fabulously violent, and has an interesting take on werewolf mythology. I was quite sad as it came to an end.

The first thing that struck me was that he had good names. The next thing I noticed was his lack of 'show, not tell.' There was a lot of basic description, or even flat-out infodumping, and it did kind of get tedious after a while. On the plus side, it was an intriguing story with a good plot that kept my interest. It did have an annoying habit of randomly switching topics, and page-long chapters have always annoyed me, but that's a personal thing.

A warning for the younger readers: it was kind of... sexually free. It didn't get explicit, but the author had no problem with letting his characters sleep with whoever they wanted, so look out for that.
