The level this book reaches in profound and emotive storytelling is what makes it a modern classic (which feels funny to say, since it came out over 20 years ago).
This book is a step above some other 5 star ratings I've given thus far this year; suffice to say I'll be editing those ratings. One of the few books that has characters that feel like real people to me, and doesn't rely on interesting premises or ideas, just solid, heartfelt honesty and vulnerability in literature form. Incredible work.

I’m giving this book a 4⭐️ right now but feel like it needs to sit with me a while. I had to take quite a few breaks while getting through this novel. Definitely check trigger warnings- very impactful heavy writing. The depth of grief and guilt you learn and experience… very profound work. Easy to understand why this is a must read.
