Awesome book, love Amos Decker. I fully intend to read more of his stories, Baldacci does a great job making a unique character and Baldacci tells a strong story of brutality, cunning, and intrigue.
An absolute page turner and one of the scarier books I've read in a while. But the ending came out of left field and the whole thing seemed a little mass-market so four stars instead of five.
4.5 Such an interesting topic! The mind is a very strange animal!

I picked this up feeling nostalgic about David Baldacci's books. I always loved reading his books, and they all filled a particular itch for mystery or thriller once in a while. I saw this was one of his top-rated books, so I picked it up without reading much into it. Getting back to reading has made me realise I have changed a lot. I have less time now than before, so I am more critical of what I used to hold in higher regard a few years ago. I am unsure if this suffered from the same as if it was the book itself, but I expected more from it. It is a bad sign for me when I think about "how much more is left" rather than, "OMG, is that all that's left?" It was the former with this book. But that being said, it wasn't dull by any means. It had several things I have come to expect from David's books, and this was no exception. It was a slow burn at some places, and the story could have been better, but the reveal in the end was underwhelming.
I like Amos as a character similar to the others I have read in many ways. His backstory was interesting. I like the nature of his partner and the reporter. They may appear more in the following books, which I wonder if I would read.
Overall, it wasn't a complete waste of time, nor excellent. I had a few places I wanted to drop it, but I am glad I stuck to it and finished it, as it turned out to be a decent read but forgettable overall.

Gripping murder mystery. Quite graphic on describing the murders, so I skimmed through that, although there are definitely purely clues in those descriptions. Learned a lot about hyperthymesia. The main character runs off on hunches multiple times without explaining to the reader what’s going on, which got a little old about halfway through the book. Fast paced read, and I recommend with caution.
Graphic: Rape, Sexual violence, Murder
