This book threw intense feelings of claustrophobia and desperation at me. Personally it was a bit hard to get through because of this, but still worth reading.

The experience of reading Thérèse Raquin wasn't my favorite. My main problem was the writing. In an effort of being objective and realistic, it comes across as dull and boring. I had a hard time getting through the novel, mainly because of the writing and pacing. However, I did really like the story. It's dark, challenging and quite disgusting at times, but also weirdly ironic and tragi-comical. While it did drag on for quite a while in the middle, the end left my jaw on the floor. The sheer stupidity of the two main characters is both funny and devastating.

This book is such a wreck. I love it. Never have i ever been more satisfied with characters dying. What a climax!

This book is a mindfuck of horror realism. Laurent and Therese are so astute but horrendous pieces of shit that you don't know if to admire them or despise them. It's hard to get past the midway point of the book though bc it gets so overwrought about what Therese and Laurent are going through, but that's the aim I guess. It is gripping in a way but I had to coax myself to pick up the book every time I put it down.

This book is a very good example of a realist book, typically naturalism I’d say. Generally speaking the book’s content is interesting but it’s protracted around the middle. The ending was worth it tho in my opinion and was very unexpected. Quite a sad book if you’re sensitive to love and guilt.
