Had I read this years ago before I watched both movies I probably would have enjoyed it more. But it was a nice break from my normal read.

An engrossing read with an all time character at its center, Psycho was one of my favorite reads of the year.

I watched the Hitchcock movie of the same name when I was about 12 or 13, and it was spooky, but not actually scary. I don't know why I waited all this time to read the book, but now that I have, I'm very glad that I read it. I highly enjoyed this book. The level of suspense is mild and light throughout the first 2/3 of the book, building slowly but steadily- but then during the last third the tension began growing a more rapid pace, and even though I already knew pretty much what was going to happen, I was on the edge of my seat by the time the story reached its climactic reveal. I was pleasantly surprised at how close the book and the screenplay are. I always love when movies are faithful to the source material, the closer the better imo. I think I might read some more by this author in the future.

The movie is actually better, but this is still good. There are a couple of slow spots, but this still does the job. A short read which can be knocked out over a weekend.

I'm gonna skip a synopsis because, one, PSYCHO, and two, PSYCHO.

When I first read this about seven years ago, I gave it three stars. It's a pretty good book, but for some reason, I was underwhelmed by it. However, recently I scored the whole PSYCHO series on a Chirp deal and decided to start from the beginning.

Holy cow, does the narrator make all the difference. Apparently, I have a mediocre narrator in my head, because listening to Richard Powers read it got me all involved. He does the voices very well, and the book speeds along at a good clip.

If you didn't like the book, or found it ho-hum, I'd recommend giving this version a try.

I very much enjoyed reading this classic. I even felt it handled the transgender identification NOT being why he had issues to be refreshing in a horror. And the fact the women were the smartest characters? In a 1950s novel? Dayum. The things I didn’t like: overuse of fat as character description, the nail monologue, and the slowness towards the end

Note: I read through some solid one star reviews that do have some validity. Maybe because it was such a fast read and I had read a lot of shitty books so far this month that a lot of it didn’t stand out, but I do think there are some fair points made in them. I didn’t know anything about the author himself which probably helped my reading as well.

As good as the movie...only much different.

Wasn’t sure what to expect but I was not disappointed! Loved the plot twist and still slightly confused .. in a good way.
