13-Word Book Vibe Check: Classic suspense with constant tension-building and everyone’s a victim in the end.

Overall Mood: It was a dark and stormy night for mental health and queer representation in the ‘50s.

I have never watched Psycho so I felt it would be a good idea to read the book. It certainly is an interesting way to look at the mind of a man still in grief over the relationship with his mom.
I could not believe that she was dead, I was convinced she was alive and he was just keeping her in the house. But once they explained that it was him, wow I was shocked.
I’m giving it 3 stars because while I was impressed with the story I wish the author could’ve fleshed out some more of Norman’s personality disfunction and more of his relationship with his mom. I do think that I’ll watch the movie and see how that changes the portrayal of Norman Bates.
