Even though I've seen the Hitchcock movie, I still really enjoyed the novel (though I wished it was a bit longer). I will say that the characters are definitely more likable in the movie, but the book makes up for that by exploring the relationship between Norman Bates and his mother much more. The novel also feel a bit more sinister, and being inside Norman's head can be quite disturbing. Overall, Psycho is a quick, engaging, and thrilling read. I definitely recommend checking it out, whether you've seen the movie or not.
What a quick read. Story is well done. I can see what Hitchcok was thinking when he read this book. Also, it shows how well the screenplay of the movie was done. The novel and movie track well. Fun read. "no mother, I did not say filthy read."

A classic in the horror genre, while the movie is better known, the impact that this book had on classic and modern horror is unquantifiable!!
Also I automatically love it because it was the inspiration behind ‘Bates Motel,’ my favorite show, so I will always love and be grateful for this book. Bates Motel I love you.

The books holds up surprisingly well and is strikingly similar to the movie, when that seems to be a rarity. While the ending seems rushed and the subsequent exposition dump is incredibly unnecessary, the book still feels far ahead of it's time. Especially in the way it depicts, tension, mystery, and female protagonists.
