I am always fascinated by the off grid communities, who try to live isolated from the rest of the mankind. This was one of the main motive of this book, my first one from Minka Kent.
I really enjoyed it.
Plot: two sisters were left alone by the mother at an off grid isolated "farmhouse" during a cold winter. The mother was going to take their youngest sister in the hospital, however never came back. The girls are running low on water and food supply. Several weeks later a strange middle aged man kicks in the door and spends a couple of days with the girls. His motive is not clear. What is he doing here? Where are they? Why are the girl brainwashed about the "outside" world?
Exciting plot, balanced amount of narrative and descriptive parts, a real page turner. I needed to keep going, because I was so emotionally invested in the girls. 5 star hands down. However, the events took a very strange turn and one of the major plot twist just so forcefully forced and unbelievable for me that it spoiled the ending, as a result one star minus.
All in all a well spaced fiction thriller, perfect fit for night reading. That will definitely not be my last book from Minka Kent :)
MAJOR SPOILER, why I was disappointed in one of the major twists:
[ Nicole, where the girls were staying, after they escaped, actually was pregnant and had a baby, but she forgot about that due to mental disorder/depression/after birth posttrauma. Actually one of the girls was her kidnapped child, about who she didnt even know. It is just too far fetched and out of context. 1 star minus. (hide spoiler)]

My sister's grave
I was a bit disappointed in the ending, but overall it was a pretty good story. It was worth what I paid--and I borrowed it.

Ok, ok... I was on my toes for the last 100+ pages, even though I figured out what was going on halfway through the book, but hey.. a good legal thriller nonetheless. 3.75⭐️

A 2.5 for me. Pretty average. Won't recommend but if you love thrillers and have nothing to read you might opt for this.
In the beginning, I felt this is going to be an amazing book but it doesn't live up to the expectations. On the contrary, the second half is slightly monotonous and predictable for a thriller.

I have to confess to reading only some of this book. I get bored with your stereotypical predatory journalists and your asshole vindictive detective bosses. Also, I didn’t want to read about the inevitable aggression towards the dogs in the story either.
So I jumped to the last four chapters and gleaned the storyline. Yes, formulaic but still toothy given the twists. And I always appreciate skillful, intelligent women.
