Thank you to Tor Teen and NetGalley for giving me a chance to read this eARC.

I loved the first book of this duology and was looking forward to reading this sequel. There was a lot to digest in this final book but it was a very emotional, enjoyable ride.

My Reactions:

My Attention: I read this book in two days so it’s safe to say it had my attention.

World Building: I really love this world the author created. I want to ride on a gryphon and be a paladin! It’s what made me love the first book.

Writing Style: With the dual perspective, I thought it was uneven. I loved Inara’s perspective more than Zuhra’s.

Bringing the Heat:

I received an ARC from NetGalley for review.

After having read the first one in this duology, I wasn't entire sure where it was going to be headed. But it was nice to see these sisters who spend so much of their life in complete isolation, truly find themselves. And accept who they are.

This is definitely a tale of sisters, and finding themselves, and each other. About bonds, and connections, of making your own family.

I don't want to say anything else to give away the plot. But this was a surprising solid ending to this story.

Great book, great sequel and end to the duology! Really enjoyed seeing these characters again, and dealing with the fallout from the first book!

I think I liked this one even better than the first book. I was not expecting a lot of things that happened and it went against a lot of tropes.

Sorry, I just had to say how bad I felt for Halvor!

description

To be honest I was never sure about the relationship between him and Inara. I liked her and Loukas, but I just felt bad that while he was dying, the girl he loved was kissing someone else. I mean I felt like it was right, but I felt so bad for him!

There was a lot more death in this book than I was expecting! It was a bit more intense. To be honest I faded out sometimes during the battle, but it was better than a quick fix that a lot of YA authors do.

I also couldn't believe they destroyed the gate at the end! I didn't see that coming at all. I thought they were going to meet the human king at some point and make an alliance, but humans really had little to do with this book. Which I actually kind of liked. It didn't do the things I expected. Overall really enjoyed this one!

I loved this book! It has adventure, romance, a beautiful sisterly bond, and gryphons! What more could a reader ask for?

By the end of the book I was flipping pages as fast as I possibly could because I needed to know how everything would end up ASAP. The characters are well-written, and I just wanted to hug all of them! This book also broke my heart several times, so of course I want everyone to read it too, so they can have their hearts broken with me.

I love Zuhra and Inara so much! I really enjoyed following along with them, and I also loved the side characters, especially the love interests.

I’ve read all of Sara Larson’s published books, and I have to say that I have loved all of them. I’m looking forward to reading whatever she publishes next!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Content:
Clean romance, some moderate kissing (I think it was still PG).
Mild swearing.

I had not yet read the first book in this duology, so I read both books back to back. There is so much to love in this series – magical god-like creatures, the human and magical worlds connected by a gateway, an intriguing magic system, gryphons and gryphon riders (!), and an impending war between the humans and magical beings that our protagonists must stop – but my absolute favorite thing about this series is the bond between sisters Zuhra and Inara. I lost my sister to domestic violence nearly 13 years ago, and not a day goes by that I don’t miss her and imagine her with me still. When the sisters are separated after they open the gateway in the first book, Inara’s grief is palpable and real and hit me right in the heart (I marked two quotes in particular that spoke to my soul). What I loved most in Warriors of Wing and Flame was watching as the sisters re-learn each other, watch each other fall in love, discover their own strengths as individuals and their even greater strength when combined together, and, most importantly, work together to keep their loved ones safe. I knew from the author’s note to book one that Sara wrote this because of her love for her own sisters, but the inscription to book two actually had me tearing up: “For my sisters. The greatest gift our parents ever gave us was each other.” There are so many reasons to read this awesome fantasy duology, but if you are a fan of stories about sisters and sisterhood, I guarantee you cannot go wrong picking this one up.

Rating: 4 stars!
