Historically interesting and it is nice to hear from a female traveler in the 1850s but it's worth noting that the language and attitudes at times are pretty racist, reflecting the opinions of the time but uncomfortable for a modern reader.

Pretty racist and outdated at times, but some wonderful language and hyperbole

Bird writes of the endless tide of Western emigration in America, fretted with the ceaseless cries of 'Go Ahead!' and 'move on!'
