This series had been on decline since it's strong initial putting, which makes it all the more disappointing that it sort of just unravelled toward the end. It think that it's definitely worth pointing out that Mike Johnson appears to have left the book as writer after the H'El storyline. There are several problems with this volume. First, the H'El storyline is told across issues 14-17 of Superman and Superboy as well as 14-17 of Supergirl. So for the first chunk of the book, you're getting a disconcerting leap forward in the story between issues that are covered by the Superman and Superboy comics. Then after the H'El storyline, Mike Johnson leaves the book as writer and the change in tone and coherence is immediately evident. The parts that you do get of the H'El storyline are compelling, but the following issues are not.

Read the separate issues.

The H'el on Earth story arc wasn't my favorite just cause Supergirl seems a bit too easily manipulated. Still nice to see a Supers crossover.

These collected volumes get irritating when a crossover event happens in the middle -- this one make little sense as great portions of the story apparently took place in other Super-folk lines and aren't included in this volume.

Wow, this was an amazing plot. I loved it, it perfectly shows how complex Kara is. And there is a very interesting and good character development.

It is very sad, terrifying and incredible. Kara is truly one of my favorite DC characters. God, Sanctuary would make an awesome movie.

Overall story and writing continue to be good, but I had two issues with this volume. First, the major story arc (featuring Wonder Woman, the Flash, and Superman and a world-threatening event) was apparently resolved in another series--Superman or the Justice League, I didn't check because I'm not going looking for it. We got buildup and then aftermath, no climax (insert joke from own personal life here). Frustrating.

Second, the introduction of Power Girl, who is...Supergirl? Maybe this is answered elsewhere too, but just reading this collection left me pretty confused.

I'll read on for now, but enough of the money grab crossovers, please. (And, yes, I do realize I'm asking that of books that have already been written, but maybe someone can fly around the world backward to set things write.)
