Tuve este libro por mucho tiempo en mi correo electrónico, no me lo habían recomendado solo una vez, sino que muchas personas hablaban de lo maravilloso que era. Improbable, pensé, al ser un pequeño libro que relataba, según creía, la ruta de la seda.
Lo leí a la luz del celular, entre otras cosas, la peor y más dolorosa forma de leer, sin embargo, cuando decidí empezarlo ya no podía parar sino hasta terminar.
Y es que como últimamente me he encontrado en diferentes textos, no se sabe realmente quién es el protagonista, y no cumple con las predicciones que como lector tenía.
Seda es no sólo una novela, novela gráfica, sino que además es un poema, y tal vez caigo en clichés al mencionar esto, pero no es algo que pueda dejar pasar sin mencionar.
Es además, una historia de amor, de constancia, de la tragedia humana, y del paso del tiempo. Alessandro Baricco usa a la ruta de la seda como una excusa para mostrarnos, en cierta medida y tal vez con la lectura más literal, un camino a recorrer, pero también la costumbre, que se incrusta en nuestras vidas.
Al principio, también es un libro sobre la locura, de atravesar el mundo en busca de algo que no estabamos seguros si existió. Pero es definitivamente el final, lo que le da sentido a todo el texto y me deja con la gran pregunta de si realmente entendí lo que pensaba que estaba leyendo, es sin duda un pequeño libro que habrá que reeler.

The naration was so good , it flowed smoothly you could read this book in one sitting and not get bored, but why why ruin such perfect narration with such bland plot. I mean the man did travel all the way to japan mid civil war risking his life all to cheat on his wife helen, which might i add did figure it out.

I borrowed this from my brother, who I think got sucked into reading it because there's a movie version involving Keira Knightley.
The story is translated from Italian, and I suspect that the writing style is rather odd, even in the original. There is lots of repetition with only slight alterations and in a book this short that takes up a chunk of pages.
I felt little connection or sympathy with the characters, except perhaps Helene, and the twist of the ending at least made it a much more interesting book. I don't know if it's the vague language or something lost in the translation but I'm still not actually sure what went ON at a very significant point in the story, so I may actually get roped into watching the movie just to try and get that straightened out.
However... the edition I read had the movie cover, and that cover makes NO SENSE AT ALL. If Keira Knightley is the mystery girl, she should not be in English clothes or embracing the main guy. If she's Helene, the giant looming woman in the background shouldn't be Japanese. But... whatever.
It's a ridiculously fast/short read with kind of an interesting ending.

Wow. With spare, quiet prose, this little book unfolds a story that is so intimate, so personal, you almost feel like a voyeur for reading it. The translation is gorgeous; I can only imagine how good it was in its original language.
