Oh my god! What a disappointment!
I was waiting for something different and more with Japanese culture and so on but this ended up just as, I might call it, a story of a man's phantasm. There is no adventure, the travel to Japan is told in a plain way and all the plot is focussed on the obsession and the yearning of the male character for Hara Kei's concubine and her sensuality that she keeps teasing him with each time he came back to Japan, making him lost in a silky kind of lust.
Helene, who plays the poor neglected and left behind wife and she just ended up with an "Alas" carved on her grave from her dear husband after he realized, too late, his feelings for her, just wow!

Really,I don't see why people keep praising this book to me. I feel that this book was mainly written for male readers more than anything else.
