Moonrise was such an unexpected one for me! I flicked through the book when I picked it up from the library and I thought, oh it’s a book of poems. Interesting. But it wasn’t, and it was at the same time. It’s a story about a boy whose brother is in prison on death row. But yes, it’s written as poems. I was a bit hesitant to begin with, but boy it was really well done. It made me tear up, I really enjoyed it. It kinda destroyed me a little (in a good way).

I wish I could upload images or videos bc I would put the time-lapse of me SOBBING while reading the last 50 pages as my review.

I thought I wouldn’t be that into this book as the format is kinda weird but it’s actually impressive. I lowk got so used to it so quick and ended up LOVING the sparse format. What’s crazy is how Crossan managed to It pack such a punch with less words than other books use. This story wormed its way into my heart I fear.
