Enthralled once again!

Ever since "13 Treasures" by Michelle Harrison, I didn't think another book
would make me feel enthralled & take me on another captivating adventure.

I loved the story and the characters. I really enjoyed the setting and how it was written like it could be made into a movie, which it needs to be. Elizabeth was a fun & relatable main character and I loved reading from her point of view. The other characters were enjoyable especially Jaya.

This had suspense, mystery, fantasy, and it held all of those together perfectly. I think if you enjoyed The Da Vinci Code & Night at the Museum you will LOVE this.

Adventure using magical elements from the Grimm fairy tale collections being borrowed in modern times...
and bringing together a cast of characters that would normally not be drawn to each other.

Is this novel simplistic? Yes. To the point where everyday objects are over explained, making the adult reader feel silly for picking up what is clearly a YA novel. There are lapses in the characters' judgment that literally made me scream out "What the hell are you thinking? Of course that's the better idea!" There is a little bit of the "all adults are dumb or mean" syndrome, which is frustrating. But is this novel well thought out? Yes. I wish I had thought of writing a novel about the materials in the Grimm tales; it seems like this type of story I would have fallen all over myself trying to read when I was younger. It's a quick read, but it's fun and makes you yearn for the magic in the real world.

ok so not as good as I remembered
two of the main characters are poc but they feel like they kinda play into stereotypes like I have no place to speak on that it just made me a lil uncomfy

I like the idea of it so much tho like it's a rlly cool concept I could easily see it being made into a movie it would've been nice if the characters were more fleshed out and not like stereotypes

there was one part that made my heart go ✨✨ they were at the basketball game and Aaron was like you can lean back if u want and he started playing w her hair

A cute, fast, early-ish YA read. Fairy tale artifacts (and lots of historical or not-so-historical objects) are stored away in the New York Circulating Material Repository. In the deepest stacks of this fantastical library are the Grimm Collection, the Wells Bequest (sci-fi objects), the Gibson Chrestomathy (cyberpunk and digital fantasy items), the Garden of Seasons and the Lovecraft Corpus (I imagine full of objects involving the tentacled elder gods). The story of Elizabeth Rew is told in a very straight-forward manner and remained pretty entertaining throughout. I didn't feel that all of the characters had fully distinct voices and I found some of the blocks to be overcome not really sensible, but I enjoyed the ideas too much not to keep going.
