Hay relatos muy, muy buenos y otros que parecen sacados de un folleto de lucha social. Son relatos, muestra el conflicto, no lo deletrees.

This one starts off pretty strong, but most of the stories are...unimpressive. In some, I wasn't even sure what was supposed to scare me.
But there certainly are a couple of stories in it that are worth reading, hence a few stars.

Some great ones, some misses, some that had me lost, some that were beautiful! Overall I had a good time, made great by discussing it with book club :)

I enjoyed the stories most when they weren't so hell bent on driving their point home that they lost their nuance-- OR when the story was so overgrown and dramatic that it glided into camp territory.

An example of this is The Turning, its a shorter story in the collection that delves into a young persons mind as they transform into a bird-pterodactyl-type of creature. It makes legible the feeling of being illegible within your family structure. It also touches on the comfort teens and other 'othered' individuals can feel online. While the story itself was enthralling, it was also nice to explore the story deeper in book club and discuss how becoming a monster could be a metaphor for how some families view their trans children or extrapolating it further to be about how children can feel in families they don't fit into.

If you were to read only pieces of this anthology, I would rec:
Ms. Infection USA
The Asylum
Tiddlywinks
Where the Love Light Gleams

I would say I liked about 60% of the stories in this anthology. Some of them stuck with me and others just missed the mark entirely. Then there were some where the concept of otherness was very clear and on others it was very hard to parse. My favorites were:

What Blood Hath Wrought by S.A. Cosby
Invasive Species by Ann Davila Cardinal
Night Shoppers by Michael H. Hanson
Miss Infection USA by Shanna Heath
The Asylum by Holly Lyn Walrath
