I definately wasn't a fan of this one. The story really wasn't that believable and the dialogue was not realistic. A friend gave me a few more of hers to read, hopefully they are better.

It was an ok mystery and I didn't figure out that the main suspect was a red herring at all but Anne Murphy was beyond stupid.

This author gets good reviews from some respectable newspapers so perhaps I just picked the bad apple from her collection. A few years ago when I had injured my knee, I bought a stack of light reading from the book store. I soon realized I didn't want something this light.

The story involves an attorney with a mysterious past being mistaken for dead. And she's in love with the DA. Oh, and he's totally in love with her even though they've never conversed outside of the courtroom. Squee! And her co-workers are like suddenly her BFF's and they are all lady lawyers too. Throw in some sex and you'd have a Harlequin novel. Or maybe there was sex in this, I don't even remember. Just, no. Unless this is your thing. We all have our guilty pleasures.

If you like stereotypes, stupidity, and tedium, you should read this. Otherwise, stay far away. I wish I had. I can't quite explain why I kept listening; I guess I just couldn't believe it wouldn't get better at some point. It didn't. I neither cared about nor understood the main character. The plot was filled with people doing things that made no sense whatsoever; sometimes the motivations for these actions would be explained, but the explanations made no sense either. A child is born with a cleft lip and doesn't get surgery until she's 10 years old? In modern America? I don't buy it. My brother got his surgery when he was an infant, and we weren't well off by any means.

This is my first fiction novel by Scottoline. I have enjoyed her nonfiction previously and I very much enjoyed this as well. I'll definitely read more by this author.

I enjoy reading Scottoline. Fast paced, well written and injected with humour. A good holiday read kind of author.
