The author has strong instincts and some of the chapter endings were so beautifully written. The themes in this one weren't really my cup of tea, although when I first read the description, I was excited to dive in. There's a pacing difference between the first 3/4 of the book and the last 1/4. The first part was quite slow, then there's very little transition once the narrative picks up. Even the tone and descriptions in the latter part didn't match the first part of the novel. I happened to like the last 1/4 much more, it was more thrilling.

I enjoyed Silver Nitrate a lot more. The characters are more sympathetic and fleshed out and you know, the consent part is a lot sexier.

Personally, I really really love the story. I kinda wish it did explore more of the bond with Francis since I felt like there wasn't enough for him. Overall, I did enjoy the story.

Fantastic verbiage and usage of words. It really hooks you in, and I would say I’m a big fan of the horror genre but it’s very wonderful and lovecraftian.
Some people may say the ending was a bit obvious or overdone, but I really like the themes of immortality, and horror within this book.
I felt really entrenched in the time period but not the setting, which was in a more rural Mexican town.
I liked how the book was paced. The beginning the horror sorts of creeps slowly in, and eventually traps you. I also liked how fast paced the climax was at the end. I think the pacing was well done though a lot of readers didn’t seem to enjoy it. It was like quicksand where the more you’re body is submerged the faster it gets( maybe idk how quicksand works).
