Overall I think the first half I really enjoyed. Geiki by far had me smiling and laughing to myself with his constant antics. The second half was a little odd for me overall. It helped push the story forward but I wouldn’t say I necessarily loved it. The ending was definitely unexpected and don’t go in a way I would have thought at all. But the book ended on a cute little note and it was an enjoyable read overall. Just be prepared for the mass amount of vocab lessons throughout haha.

Little slow in places but really enjoyed this story - listened to the audiobook but didn't have the glossary so did take me a little while to catch up with a lot of the names / terms

Loved the integration of Japanese folklore! loved the sassy characters, the book felt ancient and modern at the same time!

I realized why I am not a fan of fantasy. There are way too many characters and a new world with it's rules to figure out. Reading these books require too much concentration, on my part. I guess this takes the fun out of the story. In this one the author kept introducing new characters just when I was getting used to the characters. The forward and backwards of time was a bit much for me.

What I could appreciate was how the author brought to the forefront the treatment of women in this culture.

I loved this story and the unique way of telling it! The character progression and the consistency of the story was impressive! Truly, the voice of the character evolved so much through the story and I was incredibly engrossed with who she was becoming as each page went by. Such a fun and entrancing novel, definitely worth a read!
