I’ve been so excited for Mav’s book ever since I read Little Lies so getting an early copy of this book had me absolutely ecstatic. Helena Hunting’s hockey romances have always been some of my favorites, and continuing on with the next generation of the Pucked and All In characters and getting their kids stories has thrown me right back into the Helena Hunting Hockey World with yet another 5-star read from her!
Bitter Sweet Heart follows Maverick (son of Alex and Violet from Pucked) after his one-night stand before his senior year turns out to be one of his new professors. Clover Sweet is in the middle of a messy divorce- her husband won’t sign the papers and all she wants is to be free to live her life. Discovering that her summer hookup is one of her new students, a wrench is thrown in her plans to live a normal, drama-free life. Mav may put his foot in his mouth sometimes when they both discover she’s his new professor, but watching how thoughtful and protective Mav is may change their relationship into something neither expect.
What an amazing second book in this series! Helena Hunting knocks it out of the park again and I can’t wait for the series to continue with BJ’s book!

This one was challenging for me as a teacher because it focuses on a teacher and a student. It was well written, and the author addresses the age gap, but it still sits a bit uncomfortable for me.
OMG I absolutely loved Maverick. I feel like he is complete mini me of both Violet and Alex(his parents from Pucked, which if you haven’t read it… go read it now!). Maverick has his life planned out and now that senior is about to start his focus is only school and hockey. But one last hook-up at the end of summer seems like a good idea. That is until he walks into class and his hoop-up is now his professor. Clover is trying to move on from her past, but it’s been difficult and is ready for a fresh start. That means her night with Maverick has to stay in the past, she won’t break the rules, especially with being his professor. However, fate has a funny way of intervening. Maverick and Clover take us on an emotional, insanely steamy, hilarious, and of course some drama journey that will have you hooked. These two have a way of opening each up to other possibilities and their connection is extremely hard to resist. Clover and Maverick will have you on the edge of your seat devouring this book to see what will happen between these two! Maverick now has a special place in my heart!!!

I missed when the author was starting the next generation. I must have been living under a rock. So I went straight to Maverick’s book. No worries, I will read Lavender and Kody’s Book.
The reason I went straight to Maverick’s A. The female protagonist, Clover, is older, only by eight years. B. Clover is his professor.
Maverick is an old soul, selfless and unbelievably responsible for his age. He puts everyone's needs before his own. Clover is restarting her life and taking a temporary professor position.
What started as a one-night stand turned into something so beautiful. Seriously I loved these two characters' growth and how they learned from each other. Maverick sure does live up to his name. Let’s face it I was hoping he didn’t have a filter like the women in his family. He had a few moments, but nothing like Violet. She takes the cake. I missed her.
I have missed this Hickey family and look forward to the future books.
My favorite part of this book is Maverick. He's the most redeeming part of this story. The premise is good I just had a few issues that hindered my enjoyment.
1) You can NOT stop a divorce by refusing to sign papers. I was married to a man just like this, who tried to do the same thing. It did not take two years to get a divorce. I was separated for the required 6 months, filed, and was divorced within a couple of months. I know this is just a book and it's for the drama, but it's wildly inaccurate. I hope anyone feeling trapped by a spouse knows they DO have an out and this nightmare situation is not possible. Legally. (I know mentally/safely leaving an abusive relationship is hard and can take time, but that fact doesn't apply to this story's plot.) I don't want anyone to read a book or watch a movie and feel like there's no way out.
2. By 50% not much had happened, honestly not much happened in the story at all. This book could've easily been cut in half and been more enjoyable.
3. Copious amounts of fade to black spicy scenes sprinkled with a few luke-warm "full spice" scenes.
4. I didn't care for the background characters. Mav's mom is a nutcase. She would've gotten a swirly in the bathroom if I was Clover.

I listened to the audiobook version of this story and I loved it. I'm used to the drama that comes with the professor/student trope but Helena's take on this trope was a breath of fresh air. Yes, it's forbidden, secret, hidden, but the lack of scandal around it was refreshing. I also loved the vulnerability Maverick showed throughout the story, but even more close to the end, when talking to his father. The suspense around Gabriel was another amazing plot point in this story, which kept me wondering what he was going to do next. The narration by Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt was exquisite. They really brought these characters to life and kept me engaged throughout. Definitely an easy recommendation.
