I cannot say enough about this book. I have been waiting for the next book in this series. It was worth the wait. Maverick is the son of Violet and Alex Waters. The couple that started it all in the Pucked series. You don’t have to read the series to enjoy this book but it doesn’t hurt. Maverick is the perfect mix of his parents. He has his mom’s unfiltered inappropriate mouth and his hockey talent and good looks from his dad. He is in his final year of college. All he has to do is concentrate on his studies and continue to work hard on the ice. He does this and he can start his career in the NHL. There is a wrench in the works when he happens to meet Clover while enjoying his last days of summer. They get along in every way. One thing leads to another and they have a one night stand. Maverick leaves thinking he will never see her again. That is until he shows up for class and finds out that Clover is his professor.
This is an age gap romance at its best. Maverick and Clover were brought into each other’s lives at the right time. They were the support system they didn’t know they needed. I could not get enough of their story. So much so, I read it twice. It wasn’t only the romance, but also the anxiety representation is done so well. As a person who suffers from this, I really appreciated how well it was written.
Like I said, I read this story twice in the time of the release. If that doesn’t speak volumes of how much I loved and appreciated this story, I am not sure what would. All the feels and heartfelt laughs for Maverick and Clover.

I was blessed with an ARC of this beautiful story, finished it a few minutes ago, and my cheeks are still wet. I’m not gonna get over this amazing book for a while. This is book #2 in the Lies, Hearts & Truths series, a series concentrating on the 2nd generation kids from the PUCKED SERIES.
First, I strongly recommend reading Little Lies before reading this as there’s a lot of dialogue referencing events that happened in Lavender Water’s story, Maverick’s younger sister. Trust me, Little Lies is a must read!
Second, Helena is kind enough to provide a “cast sheet” of who’s who because there are lots of second generation kids and it’s great to see and remember who they all belong to. Review that page first.
Maverick and Clover are beautifully complicated (professor and student relationship) and I loved all the “special appearances“ especially Lavender, Kodiak, BJ, Alex and of course “no filter” Violet, but the HEART of this story is Maverick. His struggles will consume you. His emotions are all over the place and yours will be too. Helena has knocked it out of the park once again. There’s everything here: laughter, tears, angst - and some steamy sex of course! Simply put, this book is exceptional. I can’t recommend it enough. I truly didn’t want to reach the last page and have this story end.

Having become a huge fan of The Pucked series books, I’ve really enjoyed diving into the next generation as it were. You even get some of the Pucked characters to make some appearances which is always super enjoyable and just a treat.
Maverick Waters is an up and coming Hockey player who is destined to follow in his famous NHL father’s footsteps. He’s talented, good at taking care of others, but consistently puts himself on the back burner. He carries the weight of the world on his shoulders and is taken by surprise when he meets Clover Sweet during summer break. One hot one night stand and he thinks, as does she that they’ll never meet again. Much to both their surprise they do meet again, when she happens to be his Professor for his last semester of college. Steamy forbidden love alert!
This book is a great forbidden love story with an 8 yr age gap. There are some formidable obstacles put before the MC’s, but it ends with a great HEA so have no fear. Both characters have to deal with some unresolved trauma and it is that which was going to bring them together or push them apart.
I really love how sensitively H. Hunting writes actual real life issues and dilemmas. I think it’s partially why you can’t help but get attached to these characters and this wonderful world she creates. Although this is one book in a series you can totally read it as a stand alone. If you haven’t already done so just start reading everything she has written because you’re going to be happily book obsessed. Her stories are absolutely fantastic!

Loved Mav & loved clover. I liked this one, not as much as the first, but still liked it a lot!
This book was absolutely everything I didn’t know I needed. I was reminded time and again why I love these characters and this world.

This book is simply breathtaking. So much angst, heat, and suspense, I honestly could not put this book down. Maverick really surprised me, I think he may be my favourite Helena Hunting Hero ever. Another fantastic addition to this series!

Maverick my deep soul with the weight of the world on his shoulders. In true Waters fashion he found his soulmate in a one night stand. #Itscomplicated. Clover and Maverick have the couples goal and being friends to lovers as life takes them on a crazy path to happiness. Both have to make a lot of changes to their lives as they work to make it happen. Seeing Alex and Violet as parents protecting their baby was the best. Life is never a easy being a Waters child. Hunting will have you in tears and then squirming, in just a few short pages.
