The writing style was lovely. I don’t know if it reminds me of Jeanette Winterson’s prose in “Oranges are Not the Only Fruit” because of any actual similarity, but they both made me feel the same way. Something about the clearness, and how well the main character understood themselves.
For such a short book there was quite a lot of repetition, which typically really annoys me. It’s one of those pet peeves that I can’t really explain but, though it sometimes felt like the same thing was said thrice in the space of 6 pages, it made sense here because the narrator occupies such a unique position. She’s literally just not like other girls.
I think it’s more fun going in completely blind because you kind of start at the same vantage point of the character, however, be warned that there are no chapter breaks.
[SPOILERS]
Dude. It made sense that it seemed frequently repeated that she was the youngest therefore adapted better but it felt so unnecessary. Yes. I know.
Also something about being the sole human survivor made me think of I am Legend and they seem like fun books to contrast.

4.5/5 Still not over this book help. Every single sentence is meant to be in this book and accompanying the mc as she discovers and develops her intellectual abilities while the apocalyptic atmosphere remains is a rollercoaster ride that just keeps going down. Imo it’s a humanist stance on life and emphasises how connecting to other people is perhaps the most valuable things we got. We all matter as an individual but we cannot reach our full potential without the support of others. And the gut-wrenching loneliness and alienation of the young woman fucked me up.
