Over 30 years later, much of what is here still resonates deeply. The names themselves hold power: King, Warrior, Magician, and Lover; translated in my mind as ways of living through the Soul, Gut, Mind, and Heart. While I don't connect with everything in the chapters, there are enough examples of ways the archetypes come to life within us that each person can find something worthwhile here.

I appreciated the layout, and how it walked through each archetype individually.

Interesting little book. I’d be interested in looking deeper into the topic.

This book is not just for fans of thing Jungian. It is a valuable and very accessible exploration of male psychology (although much that is said would apply equally to women). I have used this with many clients in the consulting business and almost without exception they have found it both useful and enlightening.
We all have four energies or aspects, according to Moor, our King, Warrior, Magician and Lover tendencies. We often operate within these four quadrants by excess (the bully - too much warrior for example) or by lack (the weakling who abdicates responsibility - too little king). Once you begin to get the four energies clear in your mind you can see them operating almost universally, with friends, politicians, celebrities and so on.

Pretty interesting concepts with a lot of examples from human history to back up the assertions made. The book kind of dipped in parts for me. Moore introduced some fascinating ideas, like what it means for the hero's journey to end. This is a good supplement book for anyone looking to develop characters for a story.

Be prepared to have your proverbial socks blown off as you dive into this insightful work and much needed exploration of masculinity. In a world slamming on masculinity, learning to face our shadows is paramount. I definitely recommend this book if you’re trying to understand more about masculinity.

Moore takes Jung analysis and applies to the four archetypes that are found in males. Inclusive archetypes involve, King, Warrior, Magician and Lover. Each is highlighted in their depths of positive growth( mature masculine energy) and negative downfalls ( immature masculine energies). Categorizing an individual as his own absolute archetype wasn't fully discussed and author leaves the audience with notion that all four archetypes are interconnected and work together for optimal growth of mature masculinity.

I throughly enjoyed this book and how it created a platform about male issues.
