Not bad at all. pretty damn good. It could really have done without the Miranda/After Death/Ghost plot because I really think that just got buried under the main plot and it's a shame since it was interesting. I think that would have been better as a short story or maybe a book of its own, but alas. My main complaint with the last few books in this series has been the lack of character development. Despite anything that happened in the book, the characters would all revert right back to type at the end, thus negating any growth they might have sustained during the storyarc. But I was pleasantly surprised with the development in Bitter Blood. Sure it wasn't huge strides, but I didn't require that; just some acknowledgement that it's been a few years now since the start of the series, so some change would be good to see. I have my reservations about the way the book ended, too, because we've been teased with the 'Claire leaves Morganville' cliffhanger a few times now and nothing ever changes. Should I really bother investing myself into it or will Caine create yet another excuse as to why Claire decides to stay? I know it's incredibly wishful thinking, but I would love to see Fall of Night take place a few years in the future, with Claire having actually gone to MIT and gotten her degree and then had a real, viable reason for returning to Morganville. I'd love to see the Glass House kids as actual adults at the end.

I bought this the day it was released, but I've been so busy I didn't get round to reading it. It was well worth the wait.
Myself and a friend got to meet the author earlier this year (just after book 12 was released) when she did a book signing tour. My friend just wanted to know if there was going to be any chapters written n Myrnin's point of view.
His point of view (the first one) nearly made me cry, but I won't post any spoilers as a friend hasn't read it yet (even with me bugging her to hurry up)
It took me while to get into this book, but once I managed to sit down for longer than 15 minutes I was sucked straight in. There were many twists I didn't see coming, but there were also some real laugh out loud moments. I mean, Monica for mayor... really?
I found that this book was a bit more angsty than it's predecessors which in some ways doesn't bode well for the final 2 books as I can't work out where they will go from the ending of this one.

Amelie again with the misplaced mercy for usurpers. If Bishop can break out, so can the next one. And since she just pissed off the whole vamp community…
Though this was a good villain - bending Amelie’s closest allies and supporters to her own will instead. Whatever compulsion that is must be significant because she doesn’t have to be anywhere near them.
I don’t always love Claire - she’s too dependent on Shane, she consistently makes poor decisions that land her in at best precarious situations and at worst life threatening situations for her and anyone around her. If it weren’t for the Plot Armor, they’ve have been dead in like book 2, 3 max.
Claire saved Myrnin which is the only reason I’m still awake at 11:11 PM on the Sunday after we sprung forward and I have to be up in under six hours. I wish she’d throw Shane away and try Myrnin out, take him to MIT.
Mob mentality is a scary thing and Rachel Caine did a great job portraying that. Even young kids are capable of horrible things. And Claire hopping into Monica’s car is a throwback to Claire saving Monica from the mob in whatever book that was near the beginning. A human mob was going to kill Monica who may be an adult but is still a teenager. A human mob of high schoolers was going to kill Eve simply because she married Michael. Live and let live, y’all. It’s fair that the humans were ready to revolt with the mirroring of Nazi Germany and the ID cards. They’ve been shit on since Amelie founded the town. But to take down other humans who aren’t involved in the politics man… idk it hits close to every day problems all over the world I guess and I’m simply too tired to get all philosophical. The loose pattern is still holding up; I dislike or don’t care for one book and then I love the next. Overall still a very good series, but frustrating. Probably because the MC are teenagers or 1,000+ year old vampires who clearly never matured.

Oh Morganville, how I have missed you. This series is addictive and never fails at nonstop action and adventure. Please forgive me for being so vague in this review, but if I were to say to much it would give away so much of the story. We can't have all the secrets spilled like blood in one review!
Bitter Blood is again told from multiple POV's from all our favorite characters. The one that excited me the most was Myrnin though! We get to glimpse into his crazy mind and the author did a wonderful job of letting the reader understand what he goes through each day. Myrnin also knows that Morganville is changing. It is finally coming down to a war between the humans and the vampires. Sides will need to be chosen and our loyal group of four will find themselves put right in the middle of it. Previous evil villains will reemerge and try to play the game of chess with lives of all. Some you won't expect, others you will. One character will finally die, but I won't tell you which one or how.
We will also see the marriage between a vampire and human --Eve and Michael-- come to a major play for this book. Amelie didn't want this marriage to take place for a reason and it will be revealed why in this book. Shane and Claire will also have their own relationship struggle that will change their outcome as well.
Can I just say that what the author gave me as a reader in the last half of the book, was some of the best she has written yet. She wasn't afraid to take the road the fans will hate, but in time I believe it is for the best. There has been build up for this scene throughout the last few books -- if not all -- that finally comes to a climax. I think I was just as flabbergasted and shocked as the characters.
After thirteen installments in the Morganville story, it is great to know that the author can keep shocking me and keeping the story line interesting. For fans of Morganville, do not miss this one. Things are changing and evolving with each new chapter!

Read this just for fun but my thoughts when finishing this book were OMG I loved it.....OMG I am glad I have the next book waiting to be read.

An awesome book. Though I really did pity Amelie later on. I love how it was all put together and everything fell into place. I now know how to get out of a silver cage with a headband and shoelaces.^-^ Claire rocks! Right now I really want to slap Shane grr. I want more moments with myrnin I think Claire would go great with him. Though also Oliver shouldn't have had to go:<. I loved the ending. Claires going M.I.T YAY!

Okay, so I'm pretty happy that I'm almost freaking down with this series and that's about it.
Bitter Blood has an interesting name so I thought it was going to be a pretty interesting book that would be utterly amazing - it wasn't. I feel like I'm the only one who didn't really like this book because I just really truly didn't. Like, at all because I hated it. Every. Goddamn. Page. All of the characters, and yes all, annoyed me in one way or another. I don't understand how so many people raved about this book - DID WE READ THE SAME THING?!? I'm so confused.
Other than that: Claire is still annoying. Shane is still annoying. Michael still broods about being a vampire - he seriously needs to just get over it and move on with his life. Eve somehow annoyed the shit out of me. Everyone and everything else that happened in this book was just MEH. I don't care. I didn't care. I just want to move on with my life.
