Fun story; minor graphical violence, no language, references to same-sex relationships

I enjoyed the first trilogy, and had some expectations for the second trilogy (since the story is about 20 years in the future). The first book was OK, but I thought the whole 'gay' perspective was getting a little too much attention. This book has taken it to another level. It now comes across that the vast majority of the population seems to be gay. The first trilogy treated this subject well - it was there and could cause some issues - but it was not thrown in our face every chapter.
This trilogy (and this book) is throwing it in my face TOO much. Besides, a lot of it is totally pointless. I am finding it very difficult to relate to many of the characters. I also care very little about them (and the ones i do - are not really there). They seem to be petty and more interested in sex than anything else.

I have the last book - so lets see if it picks up a little (but i have less hope for it now).

I finished this book yesterday evening and I liked it. It was a bit slow and I knew how one of the storylines would end pretty fast but I flew through this book anyway and after the epilogue I can't wait to read the next one!!

Hard to put down.

Spoiler
Lorkin is confined to Sanctuary, the Traitor home base. The opposing faction kidnaps him, opening the way for the ruling faction to teach him stone making. They allow him to leave to open negotiations between the Traitors and Kyralia. He also begins a relationship with Tyvara.

In Kyralia, Sonea and Cery's hunt for Skellin is going poorly. Lorandra, Skellin's mother, is refusing to give up any information. Meanwhile, a spoiled novice, Naki, manages to learn black magic from a book. She seduces Lilia and tricks her into learning black magic. Naki then murders her step-father, and frames Lilia. After sentencing, Naki disappears, and Lilia escapes from prison thinking Naki needs to be saved.

In Sachaka, Ambassador Tayend arrives to represent Elyne. Ambassador Dannyl continues his search for the missing pieces of Kyralia's history. His failed rescue attempt of Lorkin hurt his political standing in Sachaka.

This is the second book in the latest trilogy by Trudi Canavan, which takes place 20 years after the events of the Black Magician trilogy. I really enjoy Trudi Canavan's writing. There is the perfect mix of magic, mystery, romance, and adventure. It's fun to see Sonea, Dannyl, and Cery again. Can't wait for, but will also regret, the conclusion of this enjoyable story.
